If you’re like me, there are times where you just want to sit down and enjoy a good show. The hardest part, however, is actually finding one that captures your interest. Sure, you can scroll through Netflix endlessly in search of something worth watching. But today, I'm here to make your life easier. In this article, I'm going to recommend two shows that are widely liked and well-known.
1. How I Met Your Mother
How I Met Your Mother is a popular sitcom that premiered in 2005 and ran for nine seasons. It is now available to stream on Hulu. It’s rated 84% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.3/10 on IMDb. Set in New York City, the show centers around Ted Mosby, a hopeless romantic and architect who recounts the story to his children about how he met their mother–a person whom you’ll have to discover by watching the show. While Ted is the main character, the story also closely follows the lives of his close-knit group of friends. These friends are Robin Scherbatsky, a Canadian journalist who is an on and off love interest for Ted; Barney Stinston, a charismatic womanizer who is known for his elaborate schemes to pick up women; Marshall Eriken, Ted's best friend who is a lawyer; and Lily Aldrin, an aspiring artist and the life long partner of Marshall. With its humor and moments of emotional depth, How I Met Your Mother is a very entertaining show that I couldn’t recommend enough.
2. Phineas and Ferb
While Phineas and Ferb may seem like a kids’ show, it’s actually an action-packed cartoon loved by all ages. Premiering in 2007 and running for 4 seasons, the show can be streamed on Disney+. It has a rating of 100% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.1/10 on IMDb. Set in the Tri-State Area during summer vacation, the show follows two stepbrothers: Phineas Flynn, the optimistic and talkative leader, and Ferb Fletcher, his quiet yet equally intelligent partner. Together, they take on ambitious projects in their backyard, creating everything from rocket ships to roller coasters that defy the laws of physics. Against these creations is their older sister, Candance Flynn, who constantly tries to show the creations to their mom to get the boys in trouble. However, she always fails hilariously as the creations disappear just before being discovered. Meanwhile, the family pet, Perry the Platypus, leads a double life as a secret agent who battles the bumbling villain, Dr. Heinz Doofenshmirtz. Ironically, Doofenshmirtz's weird and random schemes are the things that unintentionally erase the boys’ creations, saving them from being caught. With its zany characters, catchy songs, and heartwarming moments, Phineas and Ferb is a show that can be enjoyed at any age and is well worth watching.
Overall, both How I Met Your Mother and Phineas and Ferb are shows that offer something for everyone, whether you’re in the mood for something heartfelt or action-packed and humorous. Each show is unique in its own way, with memorable characters, unforgettable moments and interesting love triangles. If you’re looking for something new to watch, give these two a try–you won’t be disappointed!
